Mods: The Scene, One Week In

No official tools — but the door was left open, and modders walked through it

The Official Position

Halo Studios' stance (from the official Early Access primer on Halo Waypoint): no official modding tools, no support, no Steam Workshop - but the team intentionally shipped without mod blockers, saying they wanted to leave the door open to the modding community. Their ground rules, paraphrased: mods are unendorsed and at your own risk; don't redistribute substantial copyrighted content or repackaged builds; don't bypass purchase or unlock checks; non-commercial only; no third-party IP; violations risk legal action, and the studio reserves the right to shut down conflicting mod experiences.

What's on Nexus Already

The Nexus Mods section passed ~49 mods within the first week of Early Access. Notable early entries:

  • UE4SS for Halo Campaign Evolved - the Unreal scripting framework port; the foundation most script mods build on.
  • Comet - Enhanced Difficulty Modifier Editor - extends the official modifier system with god mode, one-hit kills, invisibility, speed, and gravity.
  • Hidden Skins Unlocker - unlocks unreleased cosmetics.
  • Tiny Halo - shrinks every enemy and NPC. Exactly what it sounds like.
  • Plus fog-removal, the prequels' Mark IV armor in the main campaign, and stutter-reduction tweaks.

How Installation Works

  1. Pak mods: drop the .pak file into <install>/Halo Campaign Evolved/Meteorite/Content/Paks- the game's UE5 project is codenamed "Meteorite". (Whether a ~mods subfolder works is unconfirmed.)
  2. Script mods:install UE4SS first, then follow each mod's instructions.
  3. Back up saves before experimenting, and remove mods before verifying files after a patch.
Risk notes (read before modding)
  • No anti-cheat has been documented (the game is PvE-only, on Epic Online Services) - but absence of documentation is not proof of absence.
  • Co-op: consequences of modded clients in online sessions are unknown. Safe pattern: mod offline, unmod for co-op.
  • Game Pass / Microsoft Store version: mod compatibility unconfirmed; instructions currently target Steam.

Q: Does Halo: Campaign Evolved support mods?

A: Unofficially, yes. Halo Studios provides no modding tools, support, or Steam Workshop, but deliberately avoided blocking mods. A Nexus Mods section is live with dozens of mods within the first week.

Q: How do I install mods?

A: Standard UE5 pak modding: place pak files in <install>/Halo Campaign Evolved/Meteorite/Content/Paks (the game's internal codename is Meteorite). Script-based mods run through the UE4SS framework. Always follow each mod's own instructions.

Q: Can I get banned for modding?

A: There is no PvP and no anti-cheat has been documented so far, so the risk profile is low - but unconfirmed. The safe pattern: mod single-player freely, remove mods before co-op sessions.

Q: Do mods work on the Game Pass version?

A: Unconfirmed. Microsoft Store builds typically restrict file access, and current mod instructions target the Steam file layout. Treat modding as Steam-first for now.
